Tools and Materials
Tools:
Drill
Circular saw/track saw
Oscillating saw
Sander
Clamps
Materials:
3 - 1 x 12 x 7' pine boards
5 - 1 x 12 x 4' pine boards
Stain and finish of choice
25 - 1 1/4" screws
Cut List:
72" x 10.25" x .75" (3)
48" x 11.25" x .75" (5)

Step 1
Make 1/8" grooves in the 3 - 7 foot vertical pieces. The grooves should be on both sides at the same position.
You can use a circular saw for this cut, a table saw, or a track saw. I used the Dremel blueprint saw.

Step 2
Cut the half laps on the vertical pieces. They should be 5/8" deep, and 3/4" wide. I used a combination of a circular saw and a oscillating saw for this part.
Tip: Line up a piece of scrap on the line you made for the half lap. But the blade of the oscillating saw against that piece of scrap to make your cuts. This helps keep the blade straight!

Step 3
Cut the half laps on the horizontal pieces (the shelves). I used an oscillating saw for this part. Refer to the dimensions above for the cuts.
Use the same trick for cutting the pieces as in Step 2!

Step 4
Test piece the pieces to make sure they lock together perfectly. If they are a little tight, shave a little bit off until you have a snug but not too snug fit.
At this point, I would recommend sanding and staining before assembly.

Step 5
Screw the top and bottom into the top of the vertical pieces.

Step 6
Assemble the rest of the shelves and you've made a flat pack bookcase!
